Before you pay for another streaming service, check what you're already paying for. Phone plans, internet and TV packages, credit cards and shopping memberships increasingly include streaming services for free or at a steep discount. Many people end up paying twice for the same service without realizing it.
Here's what the major perks include as of October 2026, what each is worth at current list prices, and the fine print to watch for. Perks change often, so confirm the details with your provider before canceling anything.
Phone plans
T-Mobile has the most generous free streaming perks of the big carriers. Its Experience plans include Netflix Standard with ads, and the top-tier Experience Beyond plan adds Hulu with ads. Together that's worth about $21.48 a month at list prices. Apple TV is available as an add-on for $3 a month, which is cheap but not free.
Verizon sells perks rather than giving them away. With myPlan or myHome, you can add streaming bundles for $10 a month each. Two of the most useful:
- Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Select (with ads): $10 a month, versus about $38.97 bought separately.
- Netflix and HBO Max (with ads): $10 a month, versus about $19.98 bought separately.
These aren't free, but if you'd pay for those services anyway, they're some of the cheapest legal ways to get them.
AT&T no longer includes HBO Max with its phone plans. The perk ended for new customers when the Unlimited Elite plan was retired in 2022, and only a shrinking number of grandfathered Unlimited Elite lines still have it. If you want HBO Max bundled with AT&T's network, its prepaid brand Cricket includes HBO Max Basic with ads on the Supreme Unlimited plan.
Internet and TV providers
- Spectrum: customers with Spectrum TV packages get ad-supported versions of a long list of streaming apps included, which can cover services like Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max and Paramount+. Check which apps your package includes and activate them in your Spectrum account.
- Xfinity: Xfinity TV customers get Peacock included. Xfinity also sells discounted StreamSaver bundles, such as Netflix, Peacock and Apple TV together for about $15 a month.
- T-Mobile Home Internet: some plans come with streaming perks, so check yours if you have it.
Credit cards
Several premium cards include streaming credits. They can be valuable if you already have the card, but none is worth opening just for streaming. Annual fees run into the hundreds of dollars.
- American Express Platinum: up to $25 a month ($300 a year) in statement credits for digital entertainment. Eligible services include Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, Peacock, Paramount+, YouTube Premium and YouTube TV, plus The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Netflix and HBO Max are not eligible. You must enroll, unused credit doesn't roll over month to month, and since August 2026, Peacock bundles and subscriptions bought through a third party no longer qualify.
- Amex Blue Cash Preferred: up to $10 a month back on eligible Disney streaming (Disney+, Hulu and ESPN), plus 6% cash back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions. The no-annual-fee Blue Cash Everyday offers a smaller Disney credit, up to $84 a year.
- Chase Sapphire Reserve: complimentary Apple TV and Apple Music subscriptions, available through June 22, 2027. If you pay for Apple One instead, the benefit now works as a $7.50 monthly credit toward Apple One.
Shopping and delivery memberships
- Amazon Prime: includes Prime Video with ads. Ad-free viewing is a $4.99/month add-on.
- Walmart+: includes your choice of Paramount+ Essential (worth $8.99/month) or Peacock Premium ($12.99/month).
- Instacart+: includes Peacock Premium with ads ($12.99/month value).
- DoorDash DashPass: includes HBO Max Basic with ads ($10.99/month value).

How to avoid paying twice
- List every perk you have. Go through your phone plan, internet bill, credit cards and memberships. Most people find at least one.
- Activate them. Many perks don't start automatically. You have to enroll in the credit or link the streaming account through your provider.
- Cancel the duplicate. If you pay for Hulu directly and also get it through T-Mobile, cancel the paid one. If the perk is the ad-supported tier and you want ad-free, check whether you can upgrade through the perk for less than paying full price.
- Watch for changes. Perks end when you switch plans or cards, and providers change terms. Amex removed Peacock bundles from its credit in August 2026, for example. Check your perks once or twice a year.
- Plan around them. Services you get for free are your always-on base. Rotate everything else in and out as your shows air.
Combine perks with free streaming
Perks cover the big paid services. For everything else, free streaming fills the gaps: ad-supported apps like Tubi, Pluto TV and The Roku Channel (see how they compare), plus ad-free movies through Kanopy and Hoopla with your library card. Between perks, free services and a rotation plan for the rest, many households can cut their streaming bill by more than half. Sign up for the month you need, then cancel when you're done. Prices and trial offers change often, so check the sign-up page.
Let your perks do the work. Tell Stream-Wiser which perks you have, and your 12-month plan counts them as free so you never pay for a service you already get.
